Potassium hydroxide is a common non-mechanical alkali with chemical formula KOH and Molecular weight of 56.1. It is a white powder or flake Solid at room temperature.
The properties are similar to sodium hydroxide, strongly alkaline and corrosive, and the pH of 0.1 mol/L solution is 13.5.
It is easy to absorb moisture in the air and deliquesce, and absorb carbon dioxide into potassium carbonate.
Soluble in about 0.6 parts hot water, 0.9 parts cold water, 3 parts ethanol, 2.5 parts glycerin, slightly soluble in ether.
Large amounts of heat are generated when dissolved in water, alcohol or treated with acid.
